When it comes to music videos, there are two real things which you can do with it. there are the narrative style, which uses the story of the song and is reflected in the visuals. Usually they follow a random strangers ongoings. They don't often use the band members, but if they do it will be the lead singer, this is because they are often the main focus within a band or group. They do this so the fans get a background into the main focus of the group.
The narrative gives an insight to the meaning of the song, or can be a completely random montage of shots.

This clip follows the irony of the look a like of Ed Sheeran and Rupert Grint and follows Rupert's obsession with Ed and how he is almost trying to live the life of his idol. The video is a montage of random clips which has little meaning to the song. simply using the video to play on the irony of how they look and how ed clearly reflects on how being an idol can change others lives. In all it combines what you tend to see in narrative music videos of artistic shots of scenery and locations. Often a mix of contemporary modern and rural living to reflect an open mind and also the cmplex lives stars tend to lead.
The second form of music video is the performance style. Very popular with rock bands and pop stars, it allows them to put the live style of their music into the eyes of the fans. It is often very fast and very punchy. In a live show or in their practice area (garage). Partying and being over the top are of course a necessity.

Fall out boy demonstrate here the performance style in great fashion. They are at a school (massively popular) and they are performing and jumping round alot. It combines the fun nature of it and focuses on a mix between what is going on and performance. It does this so you dont get bored. Alot of performance would be dull, so combining it with a story line which runs along next to it makes it alot more interesting.
