We looked into the types of people who are likely to be interested in this genre and more specifically be interested in the music video itself. Through our research we discovered that our common audience interested in the music video would be youth. Those who watch music videos are often through music TV channels and through the internet services of youtube. Otherwise music is now more commonly streamed through apps like spotify or downloads through the internet as just MP3's. yet still with adults they are more interested in the music and not the videos so they are often using the streaming and downloading to get their music.
Youth are still massively into watching their music via channels like MTV. These Channels have been massive in discovering and introducing new music to the youth of the day and been a major reason behind making a video to go alongside the song. Through this new form of media has come a background of the bands life and interests. it allows us a way of really exploring what style they have. for more on MTV, there will be a post to follow
The new audience who are all hungry for icons and all far too impressionable were desperate to see their role models show off on the big screen. something that has not changed as we approach the modern day. Bands continue to use the chance to show off in their videos to get a impression across and promote interest in themselves. after all it is their biggest way of advertising.
As the killers are such a huge band, we looked into our audience with a questionnaire, which will be posted after. it reflected the great amount of variety of people who said they enjoyed the killers music or more specifically 'Mr Brightside' and what the type of music they liked. When it came to the conclusion we found that majority from all backgrounds enjoyed the killers. even those groups who seem far from that kind of music, metal and jazz group. Yet we decided as a team that we will aim our product at the youth of between 14-27 of those who are not married an into the popular trends of the time which fitted in around our genre. This is because these are the type of people who will find our video interesting. yet we want to keep with themes open enough that they apply to all audiences as it is this variety we expect in our viewings. for such a reason we are going to keep things simple.
We expect from our knowledge of being a youth in the correct age bracket, that they would want to keep things artistic and simple. from our research we found that the youth we asked wanted the video to reflect to an issue or something that they are likely to come across in their own lives and use that as a way getting across to the band. almost in a way which brings the band and the audience together in a mutual respecting fashion. From this we decided that the video should reflect issues of relationships. this can stretch our entire audience as it is an issue which effects all. so with this and a simple costume idea we can expand across all audiences. This is obviously not very specific but making it available to everyone becomes a challenge. so we came up with some simple aims which we want to make sure we capture to involve an audience of all varieties. these were
Variety of costumes which gave a youth feel but was not distant from the older generation. (achieved this through using a band t shirt from an older band. one that would of been influencing on the older audience)
Artistic shots. used to make a more appealing and polished product. this kind of product will appeal to older audience of the age bracket we are aiming at as they want quality from what they see.
A issue within a relationship which can be interpreted in a multitude of different ways.
challenging the conventions of showing off. Appeals to all and will not put people off as they may dislike the self indulgence of pop stars stereotyping. yet we will still make the characters something with style.
as our audience is so wide and varied we thought these simple changes will keep the youth highly interested and will appeal to them whilst be accepted to those of the older generation who may be interested in it and source it from a site such as youtube.
Overall we have determined that our work will be aimed at youths of all ages due to the questionnaire results we received from people from different walks of life and that they would all be interested. for this reason we want to cater for youth as they are the audience who are most likely to view it, and also aim it at middle aged people enough that they accept it as they could still access it due to the success of the song.
